There have nearly been as many Dior Hommes as there have been Miss Diors. Those of you with anything greater than a perfunctory interest in the number of the latter will know this means there have been, to put it modestly, rather a lot of Dior Hommes. The result of this proliferation is that I no longer possess a clear understanding of the DH chronology, and I have to bow to the superior wisdom of the hawk-eyed, database-wielding, repackaging-spotting denizens of the internet whenever I need to find out, say, how many different Sport versions we’ve had. The cynic in me says this is a clever way for Dior to bamboozle us with a perpetual smoke screen and make us forget all previous incarnations of the scent. And I have great faith in the cynic in me. But he’s not always right, and perhaps the vast quantity of DH variants has less to do with some Machiavellian strategy than with a simplistic, short-sighted release plan from the brand’s product development department. Late last year, we were given a new Parfum iteration, and, like many of the others, it caused a bit of a stir amongst scenthusiasts when it appeared. But before we turn our attention to it, let us rewind a few years.
